In a time where it feels like we’re going to be charged for breathing air, I’ve compiled my best tips on how to find free items! There’s heaps of ways you can get free stuff if you know the right places to go or the right hacks to use!

Using rewards cards for as many things as you can, if you’re shopping check if they have a rewards system. If you work in an office, offer to do a coffee run and get your card stamped with everyone’s orders, your free drink will rack up in no time.

Signing up to websites and businesses you shop at, they’ll usually offer you either a discount or sometimes a freebie to celebrate your birthday.

  • Handy hint - Keep your personal life and savvy shopper life separate by using a separate email address for all your discounts and sign ups. Gmail is a great resource for this.

If you Listen to radio there are stations that regularly have vans that travel around town trying to give away free stuff.

Make use of your library! No you can’t keep the things you check out, but atleast it gives you a huge variety of items you have free access to. Things like DVD’s, cd’s, audiobooks, books and magazines.

Enter the competitions! You never know you just might win. just don’t give out personal details if you do get a call, they should really notify you by email, be scam aware!

Make use of the toy library for kids. The money you will save frees up funds to spend on things you actually need! And your kids will have a much larger variety of toys to play with over time instead of purchasing something and they lose interest in one or two weeks.

Get savvy about how you cook! Got a whole roast chook (chicken), you can use the carcass to make chicken stock which can turn into another two or three meals! Same with beef bones! Think of ways to stretch your meals or we have some inspiration here for you, this way you’re kind of eating for free!

Stream for free. There is a huge range of tv shows and movies you can access through the free to air streaming apps, look at cutting down on streaming services and start watching for free!

Follow businesses on social media. There are so many random competitions and giveaways on social media that come up through businesses I follow! Find the companies you regularly buy from and follow them on socials, you never know when they might be giving stuff away or running competitions.

When looking for something on marketplace, filter by the price as maximum $1. This will show you a ton of free items in your local area.

Join your community. Get involved in your local community, either by volunteering or signing up to your local council newsletter. There are often free events put on by councils, at one of our local parks there was a bushfire awareness campaign happening which had a helicopter, ambulance and firetruck for kids to get up and have a look in. They were also giving away free food and drinks!

It’s always worth having a look on Facebook, type free into the search bar and see if there are groups in your country that can share which businesses are offering giveaways that you haven’t heard of.

There’s never been a better time to start looking at ways to better your life on a shoestring budget, so many companies are vying for the customers attention and some of them are willing to pay for loyalty!

Now to go find some freebies!
